Laboratory for alpha-spectrometry

The main task of the laboratory for alpha spectrometry is the analysis of biological samples (urine samples, faecal samples and nose blows) for their content of alpha contamination due to the actinide elements or polonium. In addition, environmental samples (soil, sediments, vegetation, etc) are analysed for their actinide content as well.

The equipment consists of several dedicated laboratories for sample preparation (including microwave digestion ovens, various chromatographic separation setups and electro deposition installations), a dedicated counting room with alpha spectroscopy chains (in total 48 counting chambers with PIPS detectors).
